The Flying Piggy Bank Brings Joyful Savings to Thousands of Bottom Dollar shoppers every day.

Groceries are way too expensive. We all know that. Okay, it isn't the only time I've said it, I keep repeating it every time I need to go on a grocery shopping trip! I have been combining coupons, BOGOs, loyalty cards, every tool I can think of, looking for ways to cut costs for a long time now. I comparison shop. I am willing to buy more private label products with quality equal to the national brands.

When it was announced that Bottom Dollar Food was coming to McKees Rocks, PA, I knew I was in for a treat since my son's family shops at their Bottom Dollar in Maryland.

McKees Rocks is now blessed with two grocery stores as well as two others in the neighboring township with a McKees Rocks mailing address.

We have multiple grocery stores, super centers, discount stores, specialty stores and more within a ten-mile radius of our neighborhood, so I was thinking they would need to offer something pretty impressive to compete within our market and win me over. But when I knew that Bottom Dollar was sending their "when piggybanks fly" mascot to the Rocks, I realized that my prayers were finally answered.

Some people have preconceived notions about what types of food and products they would have in stock and that the savings would not be worth adding them to my grocery routine. You will be amazed at the name brand selection and savings on everything from Coke to laundry detergent.

Bottom Dollar Food at 1100 Chartiers Ave., McKees Rocks, PA has become my primary choice for grocery shopping. I can make my own fuel perks with the savings I accumulate each and every visit to Bottom Dollar.

Heck, it pays to hang out with a very smart flying piggybank. Like a guardian angel, he looks after each and every Bottom Dollar shop to guarantee them the freshest products as the absolute lowest prices.

There are certain items that I only buy at Bottom Dollar Food such as their quality My Essentials line of private label paper towels, eggs, milk, ice cream, etc.

And their walk-in produce section is like being in produce heaven. Take my word for it that in my opinion a wonderful produce department at some of the best prices in our area.

And with their everyday low pricing and special purchases the savings adds up fast.

Check their website before you shop. You can see the weekly flyer, sign up for emails with money-saving offers (like $ off your whole purchase coupons) and you can load electronic coupons to your membership card.

Plus you can make a printable grocery list. This comes in handy and forces you to keep to your list and not add any impulse items, unless you must.

You won't feel guilty since Bottom Dollar Foods guarantees the lowest prices.

Check your coupons. Bottom Dollar Foods, unlike other local discount grocery stores, does accept manufacturer’s coupons and they have Catalina machines which print you coupons at check out for your next visit.

Bottom Dollar Foods will beat a competitor’s current advertised price by a penny. Just bring the ad with you and give to the cashier so they can verify the item and the price.

Similar to other discount stores, you will need to bring your own bags or reusable totes to bag your groceries. They do provide boxes if you prefer. (I do love the boxes for keeping things together in the trunk!)

There is no deli or bakery but they do carry a full selection of Oscar Mayer shaved deli meats at fantastic savings. And they have a great selection of butcher shop beef, chicken, pork, etc. Just don't let the Flying Piggybank see any of your ham, pork or bacon purchases!

They do have a customer service desk. You will need a receipt for any returns.

They carry their own private store brands as well as many major name brands, but the selection is not as vast as you may see at other grocery stores.

If you forget your membership card you can give your telephone number to the cashier to look it up for you, but you will need it to get those member’s only prices!
