When Piggy Banks Fly, Count Your Blessings and Your Savings
Bottom Dollar is what is known in the supermarket industry as an “extreme-discount” grocer.
An extreme-discount grocer is one who can sell thousands of everyday items cheaper than your mega large box-store/large-scale grocery store.
Bottom Dollar does so by having smaller stores, smaller staff, and less merchandise than your typical supermarket. And you get the added savings bonus of having a wide selection of My Essentials dairy, food and non-food items.
I have visited an existing Bottom Dollar location about 20 miles from my son's home over the past two years. I brought my coupons and my attitude for savings. After all, whatever the flying piggy bank tells me, I'm a true believer.
I am never disappointed with my shopping experience the several times I shopped at Bottom Dollar. The first thing that I noticed was the cool orange and lime colors throughout the store.
The store is compact, with wide aisles, and stocked to the brim with value. However, this was a nice change for me. There’s nothing I dislike more than having to slug through a 75,000 square feet store for just a gallon of milk and a carton of ice cream when I can shop at an 18,000 square feet store and get the same items with less effort and way more savings.
Oddly enough, even though the store is smaller, it feels very spacious, with plenty of room in the aisles. The store is always very clean, and the staff can't be more helpful and friendly.
I always make a general list so I can maximize my time and minimize any error by forgetting something I absolutely needed.
My goal is to pick up a range of things I will need for the coming week. I always select fresh produce, deli meats, whole grain bread, eggs, and a carton of ice cream.
I pride myself for using coupons every time I shop at Bottom Dollar. That’s one of the differences between Bottom Dollar and their competitors such as Aldi and Save-A-Lot. Bottom Dollar also offers their store loyalty card that you can load with e-coupons! How excellent is that? Their coupon policy is readily available on their website, and is very clear. Love that!
Another difference is that Bottom Dollar offers a LOT of national brand merchandise as well as their house brands. At Aldi and Save-A-Lot, you only find a few national brand items that are special purchases that change weekly. But not at Bottom Dollar where national brands are stocked every day for super savings.
However, there are also some similarities among these extreme-discount grocers. Everything is strictly bag-your-own. If you do not bring your own bags, you can opt to buy reusuable bags or plastic bags. They have bagging tables along the front of the store for you to bag up your goodies.
All in all, I continue to come away very impressed by my experience at Bottom Dollar Food.
I will be even more impressed on August 1, 2012 when a brand new Bottom Dollar opens in my neighborhood at 1100 Chartiers Ave, in McKees Rocks, PA.
I hope you found this post helpful and that you’ll check out Bottom Dollar Food to experience the savings for yourself. Click on http://www.bottomdollarfood.com for a location near you.
These opinions are my own, and influenced by nothing other than my experience. And tell 'em you stopped by to shop there because the flying piggy bank directed you there to haul home their out-of-this-world savings.
